born spinning
on letting yourself be danced
Welcome to your weekly Portal.
THE THRESHOLD
The world feels lawless right now and the chaos can leave us discombobulated and reeling.
But what if the orientation we are looking for is written into us, ancient, cellular, and cosmic?
We carry oceans in our bodies and are made of the same material as stars.
We are tethered not to any human system but to the turning of something far older and more reliable, the true order of things.
This week’s poem is a reminder that you were born spinning. Let yourself be danced.
THE POEM
BORN SPINNING from Reunion Songs When the lawlessness leaves you reeling, know what truly moves you. Tethered to turning, the call of the moon, you were born spinning. Let yourself be danced. You carry oceans, bleed nights, birth days. Know you are the echo, the true order of things, shattered stardust, mystery expanding/contracting, collapsing in cosmic embrace.
THE PRACTICE
The poem asks you to know what truly moves you, not what the world says should move you, but what actually does. The deep, cellular, undeniable thing. This week’s practice is to name it.
Find a quiet moment, outside if you can, under the sky. Feel the ground beneath you, the air around you. Remember that you are made of the same material as everything you can see.
Let that land in your body before it lands in your mind.
Then write.
Find the prompt that feels most true and write from it for five minutes without stopping:
“What truly moves me … beneath the noise, beneath the reeling is …”
“When I remember I was born spinning, I feel …”
“The deeper order I am tethered to is …”
THE THREAD
This week, when the lawlessness leaves you reeling, stop. Feel your feet on the ground. Remember, you are the echo of the true order of things. Shattered stardust. Mystery expanding and contracting. You were born spinning.
You do not need the world to hold still in order to find your balance.
Yours in radical hope … Amanda
P.S. Most of the poems in The Portal live in my collection Reunion Songs - poems for reconnection and remembering yourself home. The limited edition hardback is available at amandacooke.com, and the paperback can be ordered from your local bookshop or online in all of the usual places. If these Sunday evening letters have moved something in you, the whole collection is waiting.
You are receiving this because you chose to. Thank you. If this moved something in you, would you be willing to share it? Together we can create a more just, connected and loving world.

What a beautiful thought. We are forever spinning, moving, changing and evolving just like the natural order of things. 💖
